Measuring data about experiences that affect mental and physical wellbeing in dance is a fairly new concept. Your participation supports a better future for the field.
We’re interested in the perceptions of practitioners in your training environment and beyond around discrimination and abusive practices in dance. Our goal is to better understand what’s going on under the surface. It's like taking someone’s temperature. All responses given here are totally anonymous and serve as the basis for the focus of workshop exercises we facilitate in communities all over the world and tools we develop to serve dancers and educator institutions. They may also help Whistle develop better standards and practices for the global dance community at large.
About the Survey
This survey gathers information about discrimination, abuse, and sexual harassment that one may have experienced or witnessed in training or while working professionally. Additional topics we intend to examine are beliefs about pedagogy, discipline, and communication among others. In our opinion, when we have a clear understanding of how commonly-accepted practices in dance uphold abuse of power, we, together, can structure a future that supports dancers and teachers regardless of sex, gender, race, language, immigration status, sexual orientation, etc.
How to Take the Survey:
Give yourself adequate uninterrupted time to read each question carefully and to respond as accurately as possible according to your unique perspective.
Content about discrimination and sexual harassment may be triggering, so take the necessary steps to care for yourself. Consider what you might need to feel private, safe, and comfortable.
If this is your first time thinking about these topics, that’s ok. Answer to the best of your ability. There are no correct answers. The surveyis meant to measure perception.
